Mobile warm rooms for the civilian population of Ukraine
OBO supports aid projects with installation material for warm buses
Warming up, quickly recharging a mobile phone and having a cup of tea – small, everyday things which can make a huge difference to the civilian population of Ukraine Ansgar Frommeyer from the “Rolling Hospital” aid organisation is now making exactly this possible by converting twelve buses, turning them into mobile warm rooms. OBO is supporting the conversion of the buses through the provision of electrical installation materials, thus ensuring a reliable power supply to the mobile warm rooms.
A total of six articulated buses with a length of 18 metres and six more with a length of 12 metres are being used as mobile warm buses. The Ukrainian citizens then have the opportunity to warm up and get a hot soup or a hot drink. A TV supplied by a satellite receiver also provides them with information, allowing them to watch the news. Smartphones and other mobile device can be charged at a series of USB sockets.

A two-burner gas cooker, including filled gas bottles, as well as an awning, are also part of the equipment. Thus, it is possible to cook outdoors, and the tent serves as a vestibule. The existing seating of the buses has been maintained. This means that each warm room has between 37 and 52 seats. This also has the benefit that, when the situation in Ukraine has calmed down, the buses can again be used for public transport without the need for major conversion work.
OBO supports the mobile warm room project with the necessary installation materials to route a 230 volt cable from the driving seat, along with a 24 volt cable, which is routed around the passenger area in a U shape. OBO made the following products available for this: Rapid 80 device installation trunking for the standing area of the buses, in which the USB sockets can be housed. Besides the device installation trunking, OBO also supplied the necessary device installation sockets, socket units, trunking covers and end pieces. In addition, mini trunking routes the USB cables to the individual seats, allowing the mounting of USB sockets here.

The project aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations
