Support for the Diospi Suyana mission hospital in Peru
New electrical infrastructure ensures medical care
In the summer of 2021, OBO received a cry for help from Peru: The Diospi Suyana Hospital needed urgent support. A new oxygen system to supply coronavirus patients needed to be commissioned. To ensure lasting security here, the technical infrastructure required a comprehensive overhaul. OBO reacted immediately and confirmed the donation of the desperately needed materials as quickly as possible. The technical clarifications and support in the planning of the electrical installation for the entire facility followed. Thus, only a couple of weeks later, the shipping container, filled with OBO materials, was able to set off for the Andes.

Diospi Suyana is a mission hospital in the Andean town of Curahuasi, in the southern Peruvian region of Apurímac. It was founded in 2007 by German husband and wife, Klaus-Dieter and Martina John, both of whom are doctors, together with the German sponsoring association “Diospi Suyana”. Since that time, over 427,000 patients have been treated here.
Located at a height of 2,650 metres, the clinic offers comprehensive medical aid: The hospital is equipped with 100 beds, six operating theatres, two intensive care units, a laboratory and an X-ray device with computer tomography. A dental and ophthalmic clinic are also located on the hospital site. The equipment, with state-of-the-art devices that correspond to the standards of Western medicine, has helped solidify the good reputation of the hospital throughout Peru. The aim of Diospi Suyana is the improvement of the medical care of the country’s population through in- and outpatient care, the training of indigenous nurses, village medical visits and an information campaign for the patients on subjects concerning healthcare.
