SOS-Kinderdorf school in Vietnam
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the company, OBO donated 1,000 euros for every year of OBO
OBO celebrated its 100th company anniversary in 2011 and took this as a reason to make a donation to the SOS-Kinderdorf Ben Tre project in Vietnam. OBO didn’t give out any presents on the occasion of the anniversary and, instead, suggested that customers and business partners take part in the charitable idea and give a donation for the school.
At total of 54,461.93 euros was raised. OBO rounded up the amount to 100,000 euros, so that 1000 euros was sent to Vietnam for each year of the company’s existence.

SOS-Kinderdorf Ben Tre in Vietnam
The SOS-Kinderdorf organisation has been active in Vietnam since the end of the 1960s and in Ben Tre since 1999. Ben Tre is located in the Mekong Delta, around 80 kilometres south-west of Ho Chi Minh City. If various factors, such as social integration, child protection, access to clean drinking water, housing and education, are taken into account, then the Mekong Delta has one of the highest levels of child poverty in all of Vietnam. There are not enough schools, the level of training is poor and children that go to school have to leave early, because their parents cannot afford for them to continue to attend school.
At SOS-Kinderdorf Ben Tre, up to 980 children are given primary and secondary education at the SOS-Hermann Gmeiner School. As required, the children are given remedial lessons in individual subjects and have the opportunity to participate in numerous leisure activities and cultural events.
The project aligns with the following Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations
